About the YSC program
The YSC Program is a program that runs through out Queensland. It involves YSC’s working with young people who are at risk of leaving school early or leaving home. We work mainly with young people age 15 – 17 years.

Although YSC’s work in schools we are not employed by the school. Instead we work for community agencies. Tony, Kelly and Bec work for THE SPOT Youth Services.

What do YSC's do?
As YSC’s we offer support to young people. We can work individually with young people to assist and talk about family issues, homelessness, income/Centrelink issues, drug & alcohol issues, self esteem, assault; and school difficulties like bullying, or not fitting into school.

As YSC’s we can also talk with you and your parents or siblings if there are problems at home. This is normally done only if we have your permission. There is a special webpage where parents can go to find out more information about the YSC program.

If there is an issue that affects a number of young people we will often run group activities and discussions around the issue.

In 2005 we ran a girls group called the Apple Group where we talked about issues and did fun activities. We also went on an awesome camp called the ‘Chick Challenge’ where we told ghost stories, bush walked and got to discover more about ourselves. There was also a boys group that did adventure based activities such as rock climbing and high ropes. You can find out more about the current programs and activities that we are doing, by looking at our current activities and upcoming events section of this site.

Confidentiality
When we meet with young people we often talk about issues that are personal. As YSC’s we respect your privacy and we ensure your confidentiality is protected by making a confidentiality agreement with you. . This means that when you tell us about things going on in your life, we are not allowed to tell anyone unless you agree. If you want you can click here to view our confidentiality agreement, otherwise you can contact us and we can explain it more to you.

We do need to point out the following though. Because we want to ensure that all young people are kept safe, there may be times when we need to tell someone else about an issue you have raised without your permission. We would normally only do this if we are concerned for your safety or someone else’s. In these instances we do our best to let you know who we are telling and why, and we will often encourage you to be with us when we tell that person.

How to contact a YSC
You can contact a YSC in a number of ways:
